This year edition

YAF 2019'S TOPICS

This year’s topic is “DEFENDING AND BEING DEFENDED IN THE 21ST CENTURY: FREEDOM AS THE SUPREMACY OF HUMAN RIGHTS” which introduces to the public two concepts that are not so familiar to the Romanian projects’ framework: international humanitarian law and advocacy. Despite of the fact that Romania does not experience the scourge of war or any type of massive human rights violation, a citizen who is aware of the plethora of liaisons inherent to our world understands that what happens in remote parts of the world can affect him indirectly. As a matter of fact, he truly has the ability to impact the unfolding of the events in those areas, even if this to a smaller scale.

DEFENDING AS “A WAY THAT RESPECTS AND ENHANCES THE FREEDOM OF OTHERS

in which participants will be introduced to the concept of advocacy, a tool which becomes incrementally important for undertanding the dynamics of the decision-making process. They will be exposed to interactive workshops intended to both equip them with a set of practical prerequisites for acting like a real advocate – advocacy techniques, campaign strategies, campaign execution, resorting to rhetoric etc – and to instill in them the value of working for protecting.

BEING DEFENDED – RESILIENCE AS A TOOL FOR TURNING TO EACH OTHER AND NOT ON EACH OTHER

which will highlight the main angles from which the field of international humanitarian law can be approached. The Syrian Refugee Crisis, the South Sudanese Civil War, the Rohingyan Crisis, the Israeli-Palestinian tensions, the European External Action Service and its humnitarian plan are a number of topics which will be debated under the auspices of YAF.

THE WORLD WE ENVISION – UPHOLDING HUMAN RIGHTS CLOSE TO HOME

the final resolution which will incorporate the solutions identified by our participants to the thorny issues that have arisen throughout the previous days.
